We’ve all felt it. You’re scrolling through your feed, or speakign to someone. Maybe they just got a promotion, maybe they’re on a dream vacation, or maybe they’re just hitting a perfect, shaky-free Handstand.
And in that moment, a little voice inside says: “i’m not enough”.
This is the Comparison Trap, and it is the fastest way to drain your energy. In Week 3 of our Tools for Living series, we are reaching for our first “Key to Peace” from Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutras – Maitri, one of the translations for this is unconditional friendliness.
The Soul Logic: Maitri (Sutra 1.33)
The Sutras give us four keys to handle the world. The first key, Maitri, is translated as “unconditional friendliness.” But Patanjali (the author of the Sutras) was very specific: we use Maitri when we encounter Sukha- people who are happy, successful, or thriving.
The Logic is simple: When we are friendly toward the success of others, their joy becomes our joy. When we compare ourselves, we stay in a scarcity mindset (thinking there isn’t enough success to go around). When we practice Maitri, we move into an abundance mindset. We realise that another person’s light doesn’t dim ours – it actually makes the whole room brighter.

On the Mat: Yoga for Self-Acceptance
Comparison often makes us want to shrink or hide. To counter this, our physical practice this week is all about Expansive Heart Openers.
We will flow through poses like Wild Thing, Dancer, and Crescent Lunge, focusing on taking up space.
Off the Mat:
This week, your Soul Logic homework is the Un-Comparison.
Whenever you see someone succeeding – whether it’s a colleague getting praise or a friend sharing good news – catch the sting before it takes hold.
- Acknowledge the feeling: “Oh, there’s that comparison habit.”
- Use the Key: Mentally say the words: “Your joy is my joy.”
- Notice the Shift: Feel how your chest softens when you stop viewing life as a competition.
