As the earth begins to stir, the daffodils emerge and the light lingers longer, we stand at a potent threshold. The Spring Equinox approaches—a time of perfect balance and inevitable breakthrough. This year, the seasonal shift carries an even more electric charge as we head into the Year of the Fire Horse. In the Chinese zodiac, the Fire Horse is a symbol of unbridled power, charisma, and momentum. In our yoga practice, we are going to gently harness that heat.
Starting next week, we begin a new 6-week series: “Rooted & Radient” This journey isn’t just about physical movement; it is a deep dive into Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga. We will use these ancient philosophical “limbs” as our map, moving from the steady ground of our values into the momemtum of movement and breath.
This is not a rushing forward but a steady, grounded walk towards what aligns with us and how we want to show up this season. With the heaviness of the world right now, this is an opporutnity to come back to our bodies, to cultivate safety, move our energy and attention towards love and joy – and in doing so rebel against the powers of fear, hate and divide we are seeing in the collective right now.
Lets use this hour every week to stay connected to self and community, to remember our power and strength, to stay rooted, radient, open and move from a place of love for ourselves, eachother and our world.
Our Journey
Take a look at what our 6 week spring yoga journey will look like and the focus for each week….
Week 1 : The Foundation of Power | Yamas & Niyamas Rooting before rising. We use Satya (Truth) to ensure our power is honest and Tapas (Heat) to fuel our discipline. When the world is divided, the most radical act of power is refusing to hate. We ground our Growth in Satya—the truth that we are interconnected. We practice Ahimsa not as a weakness, but as a shield against the fear that tries to shrink our hearts. Our physical focus will be on creating a strong back.
Week 2: The Architecture of Resilience | The power of Asana ( our physical practise) The seedling doesn’t grow by fighting the concrete; it grows by being relentless in its own nature. We build Sthira (steadiness) so we aren’t swept away by every headline, worry or fear. We cultivate Sukha (ease) so we don’t become the very bitterness we are against. Our physical focus will be on balances and Finding your center when the wind of external pressures blow.
Week 3: The Breath of Momentum | Pranayama (Breath Control) Mastering the upward current (Prana). We use the breath as the primary fuel to propel forward. Fear lives in a shallow breath. When we take control of our Prana, we take back our power. We use our breath to clear the noise and reignite our courage. We breathe to remember that we are alive, joyful, capable and to move us towards where we want to be. Our physical focus is around heart-openers and deep ribcage expansion.
Week 4: The Focused Gaze | Pratyahara & Dharana (withdrawal of senses & Focus) Drishti. Power without focus is just a wildfire. We turn our senses inward to find a steady, laser-like resolve. We practice the Sacred Filter where we withdraw our energy from the things that deplete us (Pratyahara) so we can focus it on the things that nourish us (Dharana). We choose where we look. We choose what we feed. Our physical focus will be on hip openers and repetition.
Week 5: The Radiance of Joy | Dhyana (Meditation) & Santosha (Contentment). Joy is an act of resistance. We don’t practice Santosha to ignore the world; we practice it to fuel ourselves so we can stay in the work. Joy is the light that fear cannot extinguish. Our physical focus will be exploring taking up space with backbends and “heart-opening” poses to celebrate the pure, unbridled joy of being alive.
Week 6: The Unbridled Soul | Samadhi (Pure Oneness) shvara Pranidhana (Surrender). We merge with the momentum of life itself, becoming the very light we’ve been seeking. The final stage of growth is realising that the divide is an illusion. We are part of a larger momentum—the momentum of Spring, the momentum of Life. We surrender the small self that is afraid and merge with the Great Self that is infinite. We stand together, unbridled and whole. Our physical focus will be on full body nourishment followed by a Metta meditation and sharing homemade treats to celebrate our journey.
